INSTRUCTIONS

The management platform for this service is provided by the Steps Governance Framework at www.stepsdatabase.com

These instructions apply to content providers. It describes how you should set up your account to send information from your website to multiple subscribers. People that subscribe to content feeds on your website receive their instructions by email.

The information below applies to the administration page where you setup a new content subscription. If you login below everything will make sense;

LINKING THE SERVICE TO YOUR WEBSITE
Follow these simple steps to implement the service on your website;
  1. Log in at www.stepsdatabase.com with the username and password emailed to you when you subscribed.
     
  2. Click on the STEPS GOVERNANCE project then INFO POPs SUBSCRIPTIONS to create a new content subscription.
    If you dont see those links, please email support from the website so that we can enable your account. (Send us your UserName and Website where you want to implement the system).
     
  3. Fill out the form on the subscription edit page, then copy the two HTML tags and script link to your website to mark the content that must be included in each outgoing message.
     
  4. Activate the subscription
  5. Also remember to subscribe to that feed otherwise you will not be able to test.


HOW CONTENT PROVIDERS RECEIVE SUBSCRIBER DETAILS
When visitors subscribe OR Un-subscribe, their details are posted to your website where they can be stored.

The postback URL on your website can be specified when you create the subscription.

Messages are posted to your website with the following parameters:

www.yourdomain.com/yourPage.asp?name=name&surname=surname&email=email&action=1&ContentID=4-1

In the above link the ACTION parameter may have the following values:
1 = User Subscribed
0 = User UN-subscribed from the content feed.

The CONTENTID parameter is unique to each content subscription (i.e. if you create more then one) It may be used to identify the specific subscription to which the user subscribe OR unsubscribe.


HOW TO TRIGGER MESSAGES TO SUBSCRIBERS
Messages can be sent to subscribers at scheduled intervals OR when the content change on your website.

  • For scheduled deliveries you can specify the time interval when the subscription is created, e.g. daily or weekly.
     
  • Alternatively the message must be triggered from your website each time the content is updated. This can be accomplished by calling the following URL (replace your content id in the link below):

    http://www.stepsdatabase.com/parts/infopop/reset.aspx?contentID=XXX-XX
